Events

We host a handful of WAMA events each year, where hundreds of marketing professionals gather to hear valuable perspectives on the latest industry trends from a selected panel.

Whether it’s over a flat white at breakfast or a glass of red at a sundowner, we love bringing the industry’s top marketers together to connect and learn.

Strategy: The catalyst for exceptional outcomes

Strategy superstars Matt Oakley, Taryn Hare, Hannah Muirhead and Bradley Scott, eloquently (and at times amusingly) acknowledged the mystery that surrounds strategy by dispelling the “hot air” and reminding us to trust our gut, to be interesting, and keep it simple.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: A Way To Go

We came together to take a closer look into one of the most pressing issues facing our industry, DEI. The goal was to share insights from the WAMA & Edith Cowan University DEI Report, and establish a benchmark for representation and lived experiences of people working in the WA marketing industry. Big thanks to SBS for supporting the event and offering a generous contribution to help make it all happen. Their backing has meant the world to us, and we're thankful for their commitment to our cause.

Great Debate: Does WA Creative compete at a world class level?

We discussed whether WA creativity has what it takes to compete at a world class level. Attendees heard from some of WA’s best marketing minds debating whether our state can perform on a national and international stage when it comes to creativity. The event followed a conventional debate format, with three arguments presented for each side and a rebuttal to close from the team captains.

How I learned to stop worrying and love AI

We stepped into the unknown, exploring the future of marketing in an AI led/assisted world. This keynote and fireside chat was designed for forward-thinking marketers, creatives and innovators, who were eager to explore the opportunities that (generative) AI presents.

DE&I (& Marketing)

The practice of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) is expanding and evolving, and brands are expected to deliver accordingly. So where do we start? The topic is vast and complex, and this event was the beginning of a collective journey for our marketing community. Our goal was to leave you with an idea of the mindset and knowledge needed for your brand to take on diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as some practical first steps.

What they say about our events

“The Advertising Council Australia is a proud supporter of WAMA. Their initiatives and events are always a great opportunity to bring together some of the most talented advertisers and marketers in Perth to discuss topical issues and allows all of us to better connect with each other, and the broader community.”

Melissa Vella

WA State Manager, Advertising Council Australia

“I’ve been attending the WAMA breakfasts since their inception, and from the beginning was so impressed by the whole combination – hugely talented and purpose driven committee, sold out events with a great vibe, and intelligent, thought-provoking discussions. The speakers have always been exceptional too – varied, accomplished, and interesting. I’ve told many client and peers about the WAMA breakfasts because I think they truly are the best in Perth for the industry.”

Lanna Hill

Founder / Director, Leverage

“I attended the WAMA Christmas Drinks and I really enjoyed it. It was like walking through my LinkedIn newsfeed irl. Really good opportunity to catch up with past colleagues and your marketing mates – but better yet, gives you a chance to meet people from the biz that you follow but haven’t ever met in person. Recommend!”

Carmelita Levene

Head of Social, So Media Group

“The WAMA events have been a great addition to the professional development and networking scene here in WA (and much needed after the COVID lockdowns). Really interesting and topical speakers, as well as an excellent mix of clients and industry representatives, which means the conversations around the table are rich and diverse. The more conversations of these nature that we can have together, the more the sector will grow in understanding and collaboration towards greater outcomes. Thanks WAMA for leading in this area.”

Natalie Jenkins

CEO, Block Branding

“I regularly attend the WAMA events along with my marketing team as a way to connect outside of the office in a stimulating environment, get inspired by what other brands and businesses are doing as best practice, and meet other marketing professionals in Perth. It is a great team building activity for marketing departments and something I recommend to show you care about your team’s learning through the relevant topics and of course, the energy is always fun and engaging. Can’t wait to get out to the next event!”

Jocelyn Da Silva

Chief Marketing Officer, Steel Blue Boots
